DAYTON —
A 14-year-old girl was stabbed Thursday night while fighting with her aunt, who is facing possible felony charges.
Dayton police responded at 9:20 p.m. to a home in the 2400 block of West Riverview Avenue.
The aunt and niece were apparently fighting because the girl and a friend would not leave the home when asked.
Gail Cook, 29, told police that she grabbed a knife to protect herself when she believed her niece was coming at her with a broken bottle. The two had gotten in a physical fight on New Year’s Eve as well, according to a Dayton Police report. The two fought over the knife and the niece was stabbed, police said.
The girl was taken to Dayton Children’s Medical Center where she was treated for cuts on her arm and the back of her neck. She required a total of seven stitches, according to the report.
Cook was arrested on suspicion of felonious assault and booked into the Montgomery County Jail. She had been released as of Friday afternoon.
