VANDALIA —

A man who was cited Tuesday evening for trespassing after taking pictures of people at the Cassel Hills Pool said he was doing it as “his hobby,” police said.

“There was a complaint of a suspect taking pictures of people playing volleyball,” Vandalia Sgt. Dave Steinbrunner told News Center 7.

According to Steinbrunner, pool patrons had said they were “uncomfortable with him taking pictures of people swimming and playing volleyball.”

Lifeguards at the pool, at 1061 Taylorsview Drive, asked the man to stop taking pictures and leave, according to police.

Pool management then called police.

The man, who police say is from Montgomery County, said he told them he liked photographing people at play.

“There’s nothing against the law with taking pictures,” said Steinbrunner. “But he was trespassing on city property and was asked to leave.”

Steinbrunner said the department has seen other incidents in which people make others feel uncomfortable by staring or taking pictures.

“They’re usually asked to leave,” he said.
