DAYTON —

Less than an hour after a gunman robbed a man of his wallet Friday morning, police arrested a man matching the description of the suspect but jailed him on other charges.

The robbery was reported at 9:45 a.m. in an alley behind 18 Indiana Ave., according to a Dayton police incident report.

The suspect, described as a male wearing a black Carhartt style jacket, got away not only with the victim’s wallet but $203 that was in it.

About 35 minutes later, police said they arrested Darrin L. Crum, 51, in the 2300 block of Wayne Avenue.

Officers said they stopped Crum in Walnut Hills Park because he matched the description of the robbery suspect.

Crum was found to be in possession of nearly 4 grams of crack cocaine, 4.4 grams of heroin and $52 in cash, according to the report.

Crum was taken to the Montgomery County Jail on drug possession charges. Police have not confirmed whether he is the suspect in the robbery.
