A man who had to be extricated from his truck told police he sneezed just before he drove through an intersection, veered across two lanes, clipped a vehicle, jumped a curb and crashed in a wooded area off East Monument Avenue.
The man, believed to be in his 60s, suffered minor injuries in the Friday afternoon crash and was treated at the scene for some facial cuts. Dayton police cited him on a traffic violation for failure to control a motor vehicle.
According to police, the incident began when the man, at the wheel of a Chevy truck, went through the intersection of North Keowee Street and East Monument at about 4 p.m. He was headed south on Keowee.
The crash into brush left him trapped in the wreckage for a time. Dayton fire and rescue crews got him out.
Police believe he may have suffered some kind of medical emergency. He told them he sneezed moments before the accident.
The vehicle hit by the truck sustained little damage and the driver of that car was not injured, police said.
