OXFORD —

A 22-year-old Miami University student is charged with gross sexual imposition, assault and unlawful restraint after police said he attacked his roommate after returning home from drinking.

According to media reports, police called to Elliott Hall at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday found student Brett Hatton apparently intoxicated. According to a roommate, Hatton returned home and began throwing things and slamming his desk.

The roommate said he asked Hatton if he was OK, but said Hatton didn’t respond and dragged him from his bed, pulled him to his feet and hugged him before lifting him and throwing him back into bed.

The roommate said he urged Hatton to step outside to smoke a cigarette.

Police said Hatton picked up the roommate a third time and threw him onto the bed, holding him against the bed and rubbing against his genitals.

The roommate said he fought off Hatton and went to a friend’s room for help.

He also told police he wanted to press charges and noted that he’s openly gay but has never shown physical interest in Hatton.

Attempts to get comment from Miami University were unsuccessful.
