A 38-year-old Dayton man who deliberately drove his car into a vehicle driven by a federal task force officer was sentenced Thursday to 156 months in federal prison.

Charles D. Warren pleaded guilty Feb. 23 to charges of assaulting an officer, illegal possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, conspiracy to distribute marijuana, conspiracy to launder money, illegally structuring financial transactions, and interstate travel in furtherance of a drug conspiracy, according to Carter M. Stewart, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Ohio.

According to court documents, Warren was wanted on a warrant for illegal gun possession warrant when Dayton police stopped him on a traffic violation July 7, 2011.

Warren fled in his car as FBI Safe Streets Task Force members approached. He stopped several blocks away. As a task force officer began to get out of his vehicle, Warren put his car in reverse and rammed the officer’s vehicle.

Court documents also state that Warren and others trafficked more than 100 kilograms of marijuana from suppliers in California to the Dayton area between 2009 and 2011.

IRS investigators determined that the conspirators used several methods of laundering approximately $1.1 million in drug proceeds, including depositing the cash using other people’s names to avoid currency reporting requirements.
