WAPAKONETA —

A Birmingham, Ala., man is in jail on various charges that include drugs and weapons after he was stopped by the Ohio Highway Patrol for a speeding violation.

When troopers pulled Louis Williams III over on Interstate 75 in Auglaize County on Feb. 23, they discovered 98 ecstasy pills worth nearly $1,700, stolen documents and a loaded .22-caliber handgun during a pat-down for weapons, the patrol said Monday afternoon.

Williams, 32, is in the Auglaize County Correctional Facility on charges of carrying concealed weapons, drug abuse, having weapons as a felon, and presenting a false name or information to a law enforcement officer, according to the facility. He’s also listed in the facility as a fugitive, although no information about that charge was immediately available.

Troopers stopped Williams in a 2003 Chevy Impala bearing Alabama plates at 7:05 a.m.

According to the patrol, Williams could face up to 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine if he’s convicted on all charges.
