OSP arrests yield $185K in drugs, cash, guns

PORTSMOUTH —

Two traffic stops in Scioto County within six hours of each other on Tuesday yielded loaded guns and an estimated $185,000 in marijuana, crack and powder cocaine, heroin and thousands of pills.

Troopers with the Ohio Highway Patrol at 1:54 p.m. stopped a 2006 Chevrolet bearing West Virginia license tags on U.S. 23 for a speed violation.

Criminal indicators were observed and a drug-sniffing canine alerted to the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed 100 grams of marijuana, seven ounces of heroin, 14 ounces of cocaine and 6,500 illegal prescription pills — all worth an estimated $175,000 on the street, according to the patrol.

Lenward W. Pulliam, 30, and passenger Harold W. Chapple, 25, both of Detroit, Mich., were taken to the Scioto County Jail and charged on single felony counts of drug possession involving a schedule II substance, cocaine and heroin. Each faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $60,000 if convicted as charged, according to the patrol.

Roughly six hours later, troopers at 7:48 p.m. stopped a 2012 Chevrolet Impala bearing Massachusetts license tags on U.S. 23 for a speed violation.

Again, according to the patrol, criminal indicators were observed and a drug-sniffing canine alerted to the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed loaded Springfield XD .40-caliber, a loaded .38 Special, 29 grams of crack cocaine and 45 grams of marijuana. The drugs have an estimated street value of nearly $10,000, the patrol said.

Leon Brihm 22, and passenger Jeffrey E. Howard, 24, both of Columbus, were taken to the Scioto County Jail and charged with felony drug abuse and weapons possession as felons. Each faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $30,000 if convicted as charged, according to the patrol.
