DAYTON —

A man allegedly held and raped a woman for more than 12 hours inside a furniture store over the weekend, according to police.

Montgomery County Prosecutors approved kidnapping and rape charges Monday against Allen Stevenson, 45, in connection with the abduction and sexual assault of a 25-year-old woman.

Dayton Police Sgt. Larry Tolpin said the victim was walking home from a convenience store in the area of East Third and Philadelphia Streets early Saturday morning when Stevenson reportedly pulled up in his pickup truck and tried to talk to her.

The victim told police that she kept walking, but Stevenson blocked her into an alley with his truck, forcibly placed her into the vehicle and sexually assaulted her.

He then allegedly drove her to a business at 1322 Linden Ave. where he held her for more than 12 hours, assaulting her repeatedly.

The address is listed as Heartland Amish County Furniture. Tolpin said Stevenson works at the business and may have been living there as well.

On Saturday afternoon, the victim was able to convince Stevenson to let her go, according to police and she went to the hospital that evening. She suffered a “great deal of physical as well as emotional trauma,” according to Tolpin.

Special Victim’s Unit detectives went to the Linden Avenue address that evening and took Stevenson into custody. He is being held in the Montgomery County Jail. His bond had not been set Monday afternoon.

Tolpin called the abduction a “crime of opportunity.” Stevenson has no prior sexual assault arrests in Montgomery County. He may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, according to Tolpin.

Tolpin said police do not believe that Stevenson has victimized any other individuals. “This was an aberration in Mr. Stevenson’s activity,” he said.
