DAYTON —

Two teens were arrested after police say they waited outside of a gas station with a sawed-off shotgun intending to rob the business Thursday evening.

An employee at the Shell gas station, 4064 Free Pike, called police after observing two males pacing outside the business with colorful bandannas pulled over their faces.

When police arrived, they chased down the two individuals, identified as 17 and 18 years old, according to a Dayton police report.

Police found a sawed off shotgun lying on the ground before taking the teens into custody.

Cleveland Sumerlin, 18, was arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Jail pending formal charges of obstructing official business, resisting arrest, carrying concealed weapons, and unlawful possession of a dangerous ordinance.

The 17-year-old was arrested and transported to juvenile detention.

The report indicates the pair may have been waiting outside the business for about 40 minutes with the intention of robbing the store. At one point they approached the door, but then left again.
