DAYTON —

Officials have identified a man stabbed to death in Triangle Park.

A woman walking her dog in the park Sunday morning discovered the body of Eligio Cesar Hernandez, 44. Police said he was stabbed and then likely moved to that location.

Dayton police Sgt. Michael Godsey said Hernandez had been stabbed “at least once.”

“It may or may not have happened here,” he said at the scene. “We don’t have any witnesses.”

Later in the day, Dayton police Sgt. Larry Tolpin confirmed the emerging belief an initial incident took place somewhere else.

“It’s pretty obvious he had bled out somewhere else and was disposed of there,” Tolpin said.

The body was transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s office for an autopsy, according to Godsey.

“There are some unique qualities to this and some evidence we’ve obtained here that should be able to help us and point us in the right direction,” he said.

Hernandez’s family said he is from Mexico and has been in the area only three months. He has children in Mexico.

The family also said Hernandez had spent the night before at a friend’s house after going dancing and when the friend awakened Hernandez was already gone. He had not been seen since.

No suspect has been named. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Dayton police at (937) 333-COPS.
