KETTERING —
A Dayton man is facing a felonious assault charge after he allegedly crashed a stolen pickup through a fence and into a hot tub before firing off several shots outside his ex-girlfriend’s home.
Police in Dayton and Kettering were both searching for Scott Lawson, 44, on Wednesday evening because of multiple reported crimes in which he was allegedly involved.
First, Dayton Police got a call about a stolen pickup truck. Several friends said they had been hanging out a residence on Elliot Avenue and drinking, according to a police report. They reported that once everyone went to sleep, Lawson walked out and stole a truck belonging to one of the friends.
Another man in Dayton reported that Lawson pounded on his door and asked to come inside, when the man refused to let him in, he alleges that Lawson smashed the window of his vehicle and took off.
According to a Kettering Police report, Lawson drove the truck from Dayton to his ex-girlfriend’s house on Haig Avenue and rammed it through the rear fence of her yard at about 9:50 p.m. The crash caused a hot tub to be pushed into a neighbor’s house, according to police.
Lawson then fired several shots into the house which was occupied by three children and his ex-girlfriend. No one was injured in the shooting.
Lawson fled in the truck, but was located later in the night on Fauver Avenue in Dayton. The stolen truck was recovered near Belmont Park.
Lawson was arrested and booked into the Kettering Jail pending a formal charge of felonious assault. He could be facing grand theft and criminal damaging charges out of Dayton as well.
