Pot found in locker room, student suspended

DAYTON —

A Stivers High School student was suspended and taken into custody Tuesday after staff members found marijuana packaged for sale in a locker room.

Dayton police were called at 2 p.m. to the school, 1313 E. Fifth St., where a student was caught showing another student less than a gram of marijuana stored in a ketchup bottle, according to a police incident report.

The students were seen going into the locker room after the bell had sounded for class to start. A search of the locker room revealed about 5 grams of marijuana hidden in a toilet paper roll and nearly an ounce stashed above a ceiling tile, according to the report.

The student, whose age and grade level were not available, claimed he smelled the pot and found the ketchup bottle while searching the lockers, the report states. Police took the juvenile to the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention.

The student was suspended and Dayton City Schools’ policy dictates there will be an expulsion hearing, said Jill Moberley, district spokeswoman.

The other student was not disciplined, she said.
