DAYTON —

Officers responding to a report of a shoplifter at the Dollar Store, 645 Troy St. this morning found a man holding down the suspect a block away on Grove Avenue.

The Good Samaritan said he saw the suspect walking out of the store and it didn’t appear that he had paid the clerk.

According to a Dayton Police incident report, when the clerk confirmed the theft the man chased after the suspect and eventually located him on Grove and tackled him.

The suspect reportedly dropped the stolen items in a yard before being caught and police located the items — Oreo cookies and Jacks Links beef jerky.

The suspect, 23-year-old Dustin Porter, was transported to the Montgomery County Jail and is facing a misdemeanor theft charge.
