Teen accused of thefts from cars at Dayton Mall

MIAMI TWP., Montgomery County —

One of two teenagers caught on Dayton Mall surveillance cameras Thursday night checking vehicles for unlocked doors was apprehended near the shopping center after a foot chase.

According to Miami Twp. police, security personnel observed the activity and when a police officer approached the boys near the Barnes and Noble bookstore on State Route 725, they ran.

Police gave chase as multiple law enforcement agencies responded to police/fire radio dispatches about the incident.

Officers caught one of the boys, age 15, on or near Creek Water Drive at about 7:30 p.m. The other, whose age was not immediately available, eluded capture.

The boy who was detained has been taken to the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center in Dayton.

Police said they did recover a checkbook in the incident.
