Police officers with the Community Initiative to Reduce Gun Violence made at least two gun arrests Tuesday morning during a saturated patrol to curb recent violence.

Officers were patrolling the Westwood neighborhood on Dayton’s west side and arrested two men for carrying concealed weapons during two separate traffic stops.

Thomas Horn, 22, was arrested following a stop for dark window tint in the 3800 block of Delphos Avenue just before noon. He had two outstanding warrants including one for an aggravated assault case.

According to a Dayton Police report, Horn said he did not have a valid drivers license and when a handgun was found in the vehicle he admitted that it was his.

D’Karl Cross, 33, was pulled over near the McDonald’s at 1219 N. Gettysburg just a few minutes later for not having a front license plate on his vehicle, according to a report.

Cross admitted he didn’t have a driver’s license and then told officers there was weed in his pocket and a gun in the door of the car, according to the report.

He told police that he’s had the Glock for a long time but just started carrying it for protection when a friend, Willie Boddie Jr. was killed last week.

He said he didn’t want to talk about that shooting and was booked into the Montgomery County Jail pending formal charges of carrying a concealed weapon and improperly handling a firearm in a vehicle.
