MIAMI TWP., Montgomery County —

Two men are charged with aggravated robbery in connection with the stabbing death of a West Carrollton man who died during a fight stemming from what police described as an attempted drug ripoff.

Juwaun B. Bateman 19, of Miami Twp. and Antonio D. Addison, 18, of Miamisburg, are charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and have remained in the Montgomery County jail since they were arrested on Dec. 3. The charges were filed a day later, though the case has yet to be reviewed by a county grand jury. Bonds for both men have been set at $500,000.

As of Thursday, no one had been charged in the death of Phillip Ochen, 20, who bled to death in a Miami Twp. apartment on Dec. 2. Police say Bateman and Addison were assisting Ochen in the attempted robbery, which occurred in the parking lot of the Knolls apartments on Knollridge Drive.

The three men and a female accomplice planned to rob two drug dealers, according to police. The girl is 17 and police have not publicly identified her. Police said she called the two alleged dealers to the apartment, and when they arrived, she went to see them at their vehicle.

Next, she signaled to the three men that there was pot in the vehicle, and the three approached the vehicle, police said.

The two men inside the vehicle exited and a fight ensued. Police said Ochen somehow got his hands on a bat that was inside the vehicle, and one of the alleged drug dealers pulled a knife on him, stabbing him in the throat. He died from his injuries.
