WEST CARROLLTON —

Police detained a male Wednesday night less than two hours after a gunman robbed the Ameristop on South Alex Road of cash, but they aren’t ready to say whether that person was involved in the robbery.

A K-9 picked up on clothing police believe may have been shed during a foot chase that occurred following the robbery at the store, 1903 S. Alex, at about 8:35 p.m.

The apprehension occurred near State Route 725, West Carrollton police Sgt. David Wessling said.

No one was injured in the robbery, which also included a customer as a victim, Wessling said. A store worker hung a hand-written note to customers that the business was “Tempororily Closed” to allow police to conduct their preliminary investigation.

The robber was described as black male who was wearing a black and white bandanna over his face.

An officer on scene said the robber fled on foot after taking the money, heading south and east, possibly toward a wooded area near Imperial Road and State Route 725.

Police officers from several jurisdictions worked to set up a perimeter and search for the robber using the K-9, according to police.
