Crop of street painted Troy strawberries turn black

TROY, Ohio —

The question: "What happened to the crop of 3 foot strawberries that the festival committee refreshed last week with paint for the upcoming festival?"

They were all black by sunrise the next morning along two blocks of W. Main Street in downtown Troy.

Staffers in city hall said the festival committee said they used a cheaper grade of paint this year.

You could say this year they are featuring chocolate covered berries.

Don't let that keep you away. A reminder that the festival this year, Saturday and Sunday June 2 and 3, is being held on West Main Street due to the construction of the new Adams Street bridge over the Great Miami River.

The six-million dollar bridge project is scheduled to be completed by mid-November of this year.

Also there will be no parade this year. The parade is expected to resume in 2013.

The festival also returns to the levee between Adams Street and N. Market Street next year.

Due to the festival the Miami County Commissioners have ordered the Courthouse, the County Safety Building and the Hobart Government Center closed on Friday June 1.
