Cruiser Cam Video Released In Chase

By Becky Grimes

PASCO, Ohio —

Cruiser cam video has been released in the chase of a Sidney man who led authorities on a 60-mile chase through Shelby and Darke counties on Friday afternoon.

On Monday morning, bond has been set at $500K for Allen Branscum who is accused of attempted murder in Shelby County.

Branscum, 43, appeared in Sidney Municipal Court on Monday morning and was arraigned on a charge of attempted murder.

Law enforcement agencies said Branscum was arrested on Pasco-Montra Road and State Route 706 in Pasco after a high-speed chase that lasted more than an hour. Deputies said the chase reached varied speeds of 30 to 70 mph and went 60 miles from start to finish.

Several witnesses said Branscum was driving on two blown tires on the semi truck and honking his horn loudly as he fled from police originally down westbound State Route 47 into the village of Versailles.

Shelby County Sheriff Dean Kimpel said his deputies fired several shots into the semi's radiator in order to get him to stop. Kimple did confirm to News Center 7's Steve Baker that if the shot radiator did not stop Branscum, his next order was to shoot him.

Sidney Police Chief Kevin Gessler said Branscum was immediately taken into custody and booked into the Shelby County Jail.

Police said Branscum assaulted his wife on Friday morning in a car. When she got out and tried to run away, he allegedly tried to run her down, crashing his car into a house.

The incident happened near the intersection of Buckeye and Michigan Streets in Sidney around 5:45 a.m.

Other charges involving the pursuit have still not been filed.

His wife, Mary Branscum, 38, was treated for her injuries and released.
