Dayton Location Chosen For Ohio Rail Station

DAYTON, Ohio —

Passengers in downtown Dayton may be able to board a train to other major Ohio cities as early as 2011.

A new train station, located at Sixth and Ludlow streets, will offer trips to Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland if Ohio gets nearly $570 million in federal rail funds that have been requested.

Fares would start around $7 for a trip to Cincinnati and Amtrak projects nearly 500,000 people will ride the trains annually in Ohio.

Construction on the $6 million station could begin as early as February if funding is approved. Ohio is one of 24 states competing for the funds.
