Dayton Man Dies In House Fire

DAYTON, Ohio —

Neighbors noticed smoke pouring from the back of 621 Willow Springs Drive just after 3 p.m. When crews arrived they had to break into the home through the living room window.

"Double locks on the inside of the front door made entry there impossible," said District Chief Mark Whisman of the Dayton Fire Department.

The body of 68-year-old David N. West was discovered behind the front door. It appears he was trying to escape when he was overcome by smoke, according to investigators.

Investigators said the fire is accidental and the cause could be kitchen- related or careless smoking.
