Dayton Police Confront Men Armed With Guns

By Becky Grimes

DAYTON, Ohio —

Dayton Police believe they stopped a serious crime before it happened Saturday in Dayton.

Officers said two men walked into Gina's party and liquor store on Salem Ave around 9:30 with guns. Police said one man had what looked like a hunting rifle with a scope.

Someone inside called 911 when they saw the men. They left the store without buying anything and tried to leave in a black Cadillac when officers arrived and blocked them in.

Four men were in the car. They get out and tried to run away. Officers grabbed the driver and he resisted arrest. The driver was tazed and taken into custody. An officer was injured in the fight.

Police called it a close call. They believe officers arrived in time to diffuse whatever was about to happen before it started, whether it could have been a robbery or a shooting or both.

Police are now looking for the three men that got away. Their investigation continues.
