Dayton Police Look For a Few Good Recruits

DAYTON, Ohio —

The city Dayton is looking for a few good police recruits.

City officials are reviewing a record number of applications for 60 police recruit positions, as it tries to meet with the terms of a federal discrimination lawsuit settlement.

The city has received more than 1,200 applications.

Applications will be accepted through September 13, 2010. The city must get enough minority applicants to take the civil service exam or the U.S. Department of Justice, according to terms of the settlement, will stop the hiring process.

City officials will not say how many of the applicants they have received so far are minorities.
