Deputies: Teen girl lied about burglary

SHELBY COUNTY —

Shelby county deputies arrested a teenage boy this morning following a home invasion in the 1300 block of South Main Street, just outside Sidney, but have now learned that female victim at that home made the story up.

The girl initially told deputies that she was home alone at 5 a.m. when a burglar broke in to her home.

The girl called her father who then called 9-1-1.

Deputies responded quickly and ordered the teenage boy out of the home. He was believed to be armed and to be a suspect in an armed robbery elsewhere earlier in the morning.

He surrendered without a struggle and deputies searched the home and collected evidence. They found that several firearms were missing from the home that were believed to be used in the earlier robbery in Sidney.

Upon further investigation, deputies discovered that the burglary on Main Street was a hoax.

The juvenile female has now been detained and is being questioned. She could be charged with offenses such as filing a false report and inducing panic.
