Staff Report
TROY —
A Miami County sheriff’s deputy pleaded not guilty to an OVI charge he picked up during a traffic stop in Piqua earlier this month.
Deputy Doug Byers did not appear in court, but his attorney entered the not guilty plea on his behalf, according to court records.
According to an incident report filed by Piqua police, Byers, 43, was charged with OVI, speeding and improper lane change after he was shown to be unsteady on his feet when he was taken into custody. He also is accused of putting on a display of belligerent behavior with the officers who took him into custody in the wake of his arrest that occurred just after 1 a.m.
