Dozens Gathered To Pray For DHL Jobs

WILMINGTON, Ohio —

Sunday evening dozens of people from Clinton County and surrounding areas gathered in Wilmington for a community rally to pray for those who could be adversely affected by a potential deal between DHL and UPS.

In May, DHL announced a potential contract with UPS to carry and sort its freight. That would eliminate thousands of jobs for ABX Air and Astar Air Cargo, which operate out of the Wilmington Air Park and sort and deliver cargo for DHL.

The Ohio Department of Development said the deal could cost Clinton County and surrounding area 8,200 jobs and estimates the economic losses at more than $400 million annually.

In addition to plenty of silent and united prayers, people gathered to discuss the challenges that lie ahead for the area.

Rep. Mike Turner, who represents Ohio’s 3rd district, spoke to the crowd about the issue. State Rep. David Daniels was also on hand to speak.
