DP&L warns of possible scam

By Breaking News Staff

DAYTON —

Dayton Power & Light officials used their Twitter handle to warn customers of a scam currently being perpetuated against customers of sister company Indianapolis Power & Light.

The message said, “ALERT: New scam asks utility customers to buy prepaid debit card to pay bill and avoid disconnection. DP&L won’t ask you to do this.”

A company spokesperson elaborated saying they have had no reports of this scam affecting Dayton area customers, but IP&L has gotten several reports. Both companies are owned by AES Corporation.

“The information was tweeted to let people know we would not ask our customers to purchase a prepaid debit card to pay their bill,” said an email from corporate communications Wednesday.
