Dryer fire triggers apt. building evacuation

HARRISON TWP. —

An apartment building was evacuated Thursday night after fire was discovered in the laundry room.

Firefighters from Clayton and Trotwood provided mutual aid for Harrison Twp. when the fire was reported at approximately 8 p.m. at 541 Daytona Parkway.

Some clothes caught fire when a dryer malfunctioned, said Harrison Twp. Fire Battalion Chief Terry Overman.

About 15 residents had to wait in the cold as fire crews put out the fire and cleared the building of smoke, Overman said. The residents were allowed back inside at approximately 9 p.m.

A utility room sustained some smoke damage and a window was busted out to allow the smoke to vent, but there was no structural damage, Overman said.
