DAYTON, Ohio —

Educational leaders from the University of Dayton, Wright State University and the Montgomery County Education Service Center announced Thursday morning a new consortium to address the continuing need for more qualified science and math teachers in the Dayton region.

Educational leaders from UD and WSU joined the Engineering and Science Foundation, a fund of the Dayton Foundation, and the current partners of the West Ohio Excel Center of Excellence and Mathematics Education to create a coordinated regional approach to strengthening science and math preparation.

The consortium has received a $500,000 grant from the state to address the lack of qualified science, technology, engineering and math teachers by implementing strategies that will systematically recruit and prepare teachers in the seventh-to 12-grade teachers for the region's urban, suburban and rural school districts.
