Experts Say Bed Bugs Can Be Killed With Extreme Heat

DAYTON, Ohio —

Experts say bed bugs can be killed with extreme heat. There are also several over-the-counter applications available for purchase.

After a recent increase in the number of homes reporting bed bug infestations around the Miami Valley, experts are offering ways to prevent the spread of the blood-sucking creatures. They say the bugs will die if you wash everything in your home made with fabric in water that is 120 degrees or higher.

Officials with "Public Health Dayton Montgomery County" also say the bugs do not carry diseases, but they do bite and leave obvious marks on the body.

An apartment building in Downtown Dayton was recently evacuated for several days to allow for a mass extermination.
