PIQUA, Ohio —

Authorities said a 15-year-old boy was burned after a recreational fire ignited an aerosol can Sunday afternoon in Piqua.

Medics were sent to the 1600 block of West High Street at about 5 p.m.  A family was burning a cardboard box in their backyard fire pit when an aerosol can exploded in the fire, according to Assistant Piqua Fire Chief Mike Peltier.

The teen suffered flash burns to his face and upper body, and part of the aerosol can caused a laceration to his leg, authorities said.

The boy's father suffered a flash burn to his neck and he was not immediately treated for his burns, according to medics.

CareFlight was called to take the victim to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
