Fake gun causes scare at Wright-Patterson AFB

By Barrie Barber

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE —

A person carrying a rubberized replica of a firearm out of a building at Wright-Patterson caused concern Wednesday until authorities determined the weapon was a fake used in training, according to base officials.

Security forces tracked down the person in a vehicle shortly after a base employee called around 2 p.m. and told authorities someone had walked out of a building with a shotgun, said Wright-Patterson spokesman Bill Hancock.

Authorities determined the weapon was a rubberized replica of an M-4 carbine.

Hancock said no arrests were made and the base was not on lockdown during the incident.
