Father Accused Of Abducting Son Facing Multiple Charges

DAYTON, Ohio —

Charges could be filed as early as today against the man police say abducted his 2-year-old son and sparked a search that lasted 22 hours.

Investigators hope to have charges of kidnapping and felonious assault approved by prosecutors against 39-year-old DeWayne Wills Sr. Domestic violence, inducing panic and other charges may follow, according to authorities.

Wills Sr., who is accused of abducting his son, DeWayne Wills Jr., was arrested late Thursday night and the boy was found unharmed.

He was taken into custody about 11:15 p.m. when he came out of a house on Otterbein Avenue nearly 11 hours after an Amber Alert was issued for Wills Jr.

Police had surrounded the house and had used a bullhorn to communicate with Wills.

Once Wills surrendered, his son was also taken into custody and taken to the hospital as a standard precaution.

For most of the day, police blocked off roads and combed a four-block area after receiving information that led them to believe the child and his father were in the area of Otterbein and Harold avenues.

The incident started around 1 a.m. with a disturbance call from 307 Wexford Place. It moved to the intersection of Gettysburg and Necco avenues when police said the suspect took his son from a van full of family members and fired four shots at the van before taking off. No one was injured.
