MONTGOMERY COUNTY —

A couple and their two children escaped a potential fire inside their home just outside of Farmersville.

The couple awakened to a smoke-filled house in the 200 block of Hemple Road around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday and were able to get their infant and young child out and call for help. They got into their vehicle, drove to the end of the driveway and waited on firefighters.

Officials said there was faulty wiring in the walls and the couple is lucky to have awakened because there were no working fire detectors. No flames occurred, but it smoldered in the walls for a long time.

The family is displaced and with family until an inspection and repair are complete.
