Fire destroys barn, cause undetermined

CHRISTIANSBURG, Champaign County —

Six fire departments helped put out the flames Wednesday morning on a large barn that was destroyed by fire.

Emergency crews were dispatched at 10 a.m. to the property in the 8500 block of Old Troy Pike.

Water availability was an issue in the rural area and extra manpower was needed from the various departments, from German and Pike townships among other communities, according to Christiansburg Fire Lt. Trent Zerkle.

No people or animals were injured, but the barn was completely destroyed and the State Fire Marshal is investigating to determine the cause, Zerkle said.
