Fire Guts Clark County House; No Injuries Reported

SOUTH VIENNA, Ohio —

Thousands of gallons of water proved no match for a house fire in Clark County on Monday. The blaze happened around noon at a home on Old Columbus Road northeast of South Vienna.

Pleasant Township firefighters said they poured almost 40,000 gallons of water on the fire, but the blaze continued to burn out of control. The fire left one family homeless and investigators looking for answers.

For almost three hours, firefighters tried to bring the flames under control, but they could not get inside the house, leaving them to battle the flames from the outside.

Authorities said that when firefighters arrived, the fire had already engulfed the first floor causing the ceiling to collapse. They said tanker after tanker brought in additional water to help fight the flames.

Around 3 p.m., firefighters brought the fire under control; however, the debris was still too hot and dangerous for firefighters to go inside the structure.

The residents of the home told firefighters that they believe the fire started in the back of the house. There were no injuries during the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
