Former City Manager Enters Guilty Plea

COLUMBUS, Ohio —

Former Miamisburg City Manager William Nelson, pleaded guilty to importuning after trying to meet a teenage girl for sex in Columbus.

Investigators said he tried to meet the 14-year-old girl at a pizza place, but he was actually chatting over the internet with an undercover police officer.

According to his plea agreement Tuesday, Nelson could face up to a year in prison and he will have to register as a sex offender.

Nelson abruptly resigned from his position as city manager earlier this month citing personal reasons.

After accepting the plea in the case, Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge Charles Schneider set Nelson's sentencing for May 13.

Nelson delcined comment after the hearing.

Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said even though these Internet sex sting investigations are widely publicized, people are still being caught.

He said, “It tells me that there are some people who will go to no lengths to travel and attempt to engage in sexual activity with someone who is a minor.”

His attorney, Steve Adler, told WHIOTV.COM after the hearing that he intends to ask the judge in the case that no jail time be given as punishment.
