Former Post Commander in Piqua & Wapak Promoted To Capt.

PIQUA, Ohio —

Staff Lieutenant Daniel C. Lay was promoted to the rank of captain Friday by Colonel David W. Dicken, Patrol superintendent, during a ceremony at the Patrol’s Academy. Capt. Lay will take command of the Piqua District Headquarters, which encompasses Mercer, Auglaize, Logan, Union, Darke, Shelby, Champaign, Miami, Clark, Preble and Montgomery counties.

Capt. Lay began his Patrol career as a member of the 116th Academy Class in April 1987. He earned his commission in September of that year and was assigned to the Ashland Post. In February 1994 he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and was assigned to the Lima Post to serve as an assistant post commander.

In February 1998 he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and took command of the Piqua Post. Four years later he transferred to the Wapakoneta Post.

In May 2007 he was promoted to the rank of staff lieutenant and transferred to the Office of Field Operations in General Headquarters. He transferred to his most recent assignment as an assistant commander of the Piqua District in September 2009.

Capt. Lay has an Associate of Applied Science degree from The Ohio State University. He is also a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command.

Capt. Lay currently resides in Anna with his wife, JoAnn. They have one grown son, Zac.
