PIQUA, Ohio —
C. Oscar Baker (1917-1974) will be among the latest three individuals to be inducted Sunday, October 21, into the Piqua Civic Hall of Fame. Baker was born in Springfield, Ohio, and worked for WHIO-TV (which was Channel 13 back then) and WHIO Radio for 14 years. In July 1959, Baker purchased interest in WPTW-AM Radio in Piqua. He served as President and General Manager of the station, adding FM 95.7 in 1960. He was founder, president, and general manager of Piqua’s Valley Antenna Systems, one of the first cable TV systems in Ohio from 1964 - 1974.
Baker, who died at age 57, was very active in the Piqua community to include president of the United Fund, served on the board of directors of the Board of Miami County Mental Health Association, and also on the board of Third Savings and Loan (now Unity Bank) among others.
