HAMILTON —

A firefighter suffered an ankle injury while battling a fire that destroyed a Hamilton home on Thursday.

The firefighter was taken to a hospital for treatment. No one else was injured.

The blaze engulfed a two-story home at 228 Gordon Ave. on the city’s west side around 3 p.m. Four people were home at the time but were evacuated when police arrived, said Fire Marshal Jeffrey Shaw.

Crews put the fire out within an hour and removed some charred contents. It started outside of the home, Shaw said, and damage is estimated at $30,000.

The cause remains under investigation.
