The line was long and the waiting area packed at the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center Saturday afternoon as they held their first free vaccination clinic of 2013 for pet owners who receive public assistance or unemployment benefits. There were four free vaccination clinics held in 2012.

The free clinic was made possible by an ASPCA Grant, said Animal Resource Director Mark Kaumpf. “While you and I might get cabin fever pets end up with things like upper respiratory infections and possibly parvo. The vaccines we’re giving out today help protect people’s pets here in the Miami Valley.” The ASPCA awarded funding to the Animal Resource Center for the vaccination of cats and dogs whose owners could not afford yearly routine vaccinations.

The clinic was held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Animal Resource Center, located at 6790 Webster Street. Families had to show proof of public assistance or unemployment. The co-pay was $5 for one animal and $10 total for up to three animals. Dogs had to be licensed to receive the vaccinations.

Vaccinations were available for 100 animals so pet owners were encouraged to reserve a time by contacting the Animal Resource Center. All available vacciniations were administered during the clinic.
