SPRINGFIELD, Ohio —

Flags all over Clark County were flying at half-staff Thursday in honor of a fallen Marine from Springfield. On Thursday afternoon, the funeral procession for Lance Corporal Kevin Smith was over two miles long, and over 130 vehicles filled with loved ones traveling to Vale Cemetery in Springfield Township to pay their final respects.

Smith was buried with full military honors. The 20-year-old Marine was killed March 21st during a security mission in Iraq when an explosive device detonated near his Humvee.

Smith was remembered by family and friends as a dedicated young man who loved to play the guitar and had an amazing smile. He graduated in 2003 from Kenton Ridge High School.

On Thursday, his Moorefield Township neighborhood was decorated with American Flags in his honor.
