DAYTON, Ohio —
The incident began around 10:30 p.m. Monday at the Sip-N-Nip bar on Troy Street. Investigators said a violent fight after a game of pool led one man to stab another man four times in the upper chest, near the lungs.
Paramedics took the victim to a local hospital and the attacker took off running.
Officers identified the suspected stabber as 35-year-old Michael Threnhauser.
Police tracked him to a home on Hart Street, off Valley Street in Old North Dayton. Officers surrounded the house, which is divided into several apartments, with guns drawn.
Police knocked on the door, yelled loud warnings and even threw rocks at the windows to draw Threnhauser's attention and try to convince him to walk out.
About 90 minutes after the standoff began, and just after police requested the SWAT team, Threnhauser peacefully walked out the door with his hands up in the air.
Threnhauser obeyed commands to get on the ground and officers handcuffed him and took him to the Montgomery County Jail. The arrest was a big relief to people living in the neighborhood.
Elisha Adkins said, “He finally surrendered. They were going to have to call the SWAT Team and use tear gas and we'd have to leave with the baby, it takes a lot, a lot of stuff.".
Jesse Walters said, It's shocking to see this in my neighborhood. I've got a 2-year-old that lives with me, the guy that did it lives right above me, has access to our basement."
Threnhauser is being held at the Montgomery County Jail. Police said they will talk with prosecutors about felonious assault charges.
Officers first thought the stabbing victim might be suffering from a collapsed lung and have life-threatening injuries. They said that proved not to be the case and he's now listed in stable condition and should survive.
