Gas Leak Causes Brief Neighborhood Evacuation In Anna

ANNA, Ohio —

Approximately 30 residents of the Shelby County community of Anna, living in 20 homes, were under a voluntary evacuation Saturday night after village workers hit a 2-inch underground, high-pressure, natural gas line while digging for a water main break, according to Anna Fire Chief Tim Bender.

The incident was at the dead end of North Third Street near Walnut Street around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

Of the people who left their homes, only one took shelter at the Anna fire station, while the others went to the homes of friends or relatives to await the "all clear," said Bender.

Residents were permitted to return home before midnight.

There were no injuries.
