Gasoline prices drive up wholesale food prices

Staff Report

The rise in gasoline prices are partially to blame for driving up wholesale food prices last month, but consumers may not be aware prices are increasing.

Many companies are downsizing instead of increasing prices, according to reports. Some companies are still labeling some packages as pints, even though less than a pint is enclosed.

Small business owners have said they are competing with chain stores to offer low prices. Chain stores will have packages exclusively made for their stores so packages don’t appear to be downsizing, they told News Center 7’s Yuna Lee.
