Greenville Township Dispute Over Fire Truck

GREENVILLE, Ohio —

Jan. 1 marks the first day for Greenville Township’s very own fire department, which is the result of a contract dispute that literally ran out of gas.

Greenville Township picked up one of its fire trucks Monday, which had been used by the city under the old contract. Unfortunately, that truck ran out of diesel fuel six blocks from the Greenville Fire Department, while on the mile and half trip to the new township fire house.

Township trustees accused the Greenville Fire Department of sabotage, but Greenville firemen denied that claim.

"We did not try and run that engine out of fuel on them on purpose, by any means," said Capt. Chip Fashner of the Greenville Fire Department.

Township trustee George Luce said, "We had a gentlemen's agreement for 60 years with the city of Greenville, and this is how we are treated."
