Hamilton woman wins $1M

A Hamilton woman saddled with medical bills claimed a $1 million lottery prize Thursday at a local Meijer.

Doris Dromboski said her daughter Regina Jackson — who is “60 something” — called her immediately from the Meijer store on Tylersville Road in West Chester Twp. and said, “sit down, and then she told me.”

Dromboski said her daughter was in an accident that injured her leg and she will “be an invalid for the rest of her life on that one leg.”

“She needs to pay some bills,” Dromboski said. “This is going to help a lot.”

After mandatory federal and state taxes totaling 29 percent, Jackson will take home $710,000. The Meijer store will receive a $5,000 agent sales bonus for selling a top prize winning ticket.

The New Year’s Raffle game offered 3,334 total prizes, with the Ohio Lottery drawing four $1 million prizes, 10 prizes of $10,000, 120 prizes of $1,500, 1,000 prizes of $500 and 2,200 prizes of $100.

Lottery spokeswoman Marie Kilbane said most people who win the lottery say the first thing they’ll do is pay some bills. She said Jackson also told them she wants to help out her family and friends with some of her winnings.

“She also said she wanted to buy a laptop and pay off bills, that’s all pretty common,” Kilbane said. “That’s usually the first thing that most people say — pay off bills.”

Kilbane said there is one unclaimed $1 million raffle ticket still outstanding.
