Flag-Raising Ceremony Kicks Off Breast Cancer Awareness Month

DAYTON, Ohio —

On Friday, the American Cancer Society kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Members raised pink flags on Courthouse Square at noon. The flags symbolize women in the Miami Valley who are currently battling breast cancer.

The cancer society holds events throughout the month of October to educate women about the importance of prevention and early detection.

Nationally last year, 200,000 women and 1,500 men were diagnosed with breast cancer.
