TROTWOOD —

A Trotwood woman received a call while she was at work early Sunday morning informing her that her home was engulfed in flames.

Trecia Hall was working at the Wal-Mart store on Miller Lane around 12:45 a.m. When Hall arrived at her home, 3529 Geis Rd., she saw the roof collapsed and heavy smoke and flames shooting out of the house.

“I instantly rushed and came over here and it seems like everything I had worked for is just gone,” Hall said.

She said her dog of seven years was missing.

“The first thing I thought was, my dog, my dog, my dog might be dead,” she said.

Firefighters said when they arrived on the scene Hall’s dog was safely out of the home, but ran off. The dog returned to the scene several hours later. A neighbor found it and returned it to Hall.

Hall said no one saw anything prior to this morning’s fire, which firefighters said destroyed the home and its contents.

Imani Brown looked out her window several doors down and saw the fire truck lights and instantly ran out to see what was going on.

“The fire was up in the sky, where you could see it all the way from back there, and I didn’t know what was going on,” Brown said.

Firefighters from the Trotwood Fire Department, Clayton Fire Department and Harrison Twp. Fire Department responded to help fight the fire.

Trotwood Fire Chief Steve Milliken said this was an interesting call, because upon initial dispatch it was unclear if the fire was in Trotwood or Dayton. Geis sits directly on the border of Trotwood and the city of Dayton. The east side of the road belongs to Dayton and the west side is in the city limits of Trotwood, according to Milliken. Both Dayton and Trotwood Fire Departments responded to the call, but Dayton was relieved of its duties when it was determined the fire was in Trotwood.

Fire crews were able to knock down the flames and prevented it from spreading to any neighboring houses.

Milliken said it’s still early in the investigation, so no cause or damage estimates were immediately available, but the home is being considered a total loss.

Despite the extensive damage, Hall was thankful that the fire didn’t happen at a time when she was home with her two children.

“I could have been in there asleep,” Hall said. “That could have been my life or my babies’ life.”

The fire remains under investigation.
